Laos’s festival has more than one event but boat racing is a very important event for Buddhists and Laos’s population . Boun Suang heua is a type of boat racing festival in Vientiane, the capital city of Laos. During the festival, people sell many kinds of food as show on the picture such as grilled chicken, steamed eggs, and sticky rice with coconut milk and taro inside the baked bamboo. These three foods are always selling in this event as well as more varieties of food. People are not only watching the boat racing but they also have the chance of doing a lot of activities such as shopping (clothes), entertaining and playing games. Because of this festival a lot of people enjoy their time every year in the month of October.

The reason for boat racing in Laos.

Boun Suang Heua, or the boat racing festival, is very significant in Vientiane and around the country. Boun Suang Heua in Vientiane happens on the 15th day of the 11th month of the lunar calendar. This is the end of the monk lent’s day at Vientiane on the Mekong river; it is biggest boat racing festival and they have been cerebrating more than one hundred years because the boat racing festival is really an honoring to water divinities and the Nagas, who are protectors of the river and to show respect to the Buddha and to thank the mother of the river for giving water for our lives.

Fun way to work out.

It is easy to say, “go to exercise if you want to stay healthy and stay in shape, but it is not easy to do it.” Even though we know, exercise is good for our health: boat racing is a good sport to exercise and it is not only for young people and it is also for adult. I write this topic because I want to remind young generation to continue boat racing festival because it is beautiful culture and it is fun to play and watch and it is exciting game.
I want to share my culture with other people and I also want a new generation to remember and appreciate the people in the past, because it was not a lot of country has the specific kind of the boat racing. (it carves out from specific type of big tree.)

About me

Hello everyone, my name is Vinas Khamphasithivong, I’m 32 years old and I’m from Laos. I moved to USA when I was 20 years old. I believe every body had a memory either bad or good. I want to share some of my memory to the one I love the most in my life. Since I have been living in USA for 12 years. I always miss my homeland and family.

Many people are talking about immigrant, now a day is harder to get a visa from a poor country to a rich country. If someone gets it, they feel lucky for a new opportunity, but the same time they feel sad because they miss their family.

Surprise is not always good news: three years ago I got a bad news from my family. the guy who I love the most was sick. Some people might not feel the same way as me because they are already close to their family.  They never have homesick feeling.
